Welcome to the Revitalization Project page

Anne Arundel County Public Schools has elected to improve the existing Folger McKinsey Elementary School
In order to comply with current codes for health and life safety and construct additions to the school as required to meet the program requirements of the Board-approved Educational Specifications dated 18 June 2008. The scope of work for this project is 'Option C - Revitalization' as described in the October 2008 Feasibility Study for Folger McKinsey Elementary School which was Board-approved on 15 October 2008. At project completion, the revitalization of Folger McKinsey Elementary School will total approximately 83,349 gross square feet, including an add-alternate to extend the Gymnasium and to construct Before/After Care spaces. The school will have a State rated capacity of 636 students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. The revitalization of Folger McKinsey Elementary School will involve site redevelopment to separate bus circulation from automobile circulation as well as improve parking facilities. The scope of work will require the relocation of students and staff during construction since construction of the two-story addition will require demolition of most of the existing classrooms, and construction of the Gym/Dining/Kitchen will require demolition of those areas. The construction phase will take place from June 2010 through March 2012.

January 27, 2010 Dear Parents and Guardians: As you are well aware, construction work is scheduled to begin on our school at the conclusion of the current school year. The scope of the project necessitates that our students and staff be relocated while this work is done. Provided that sufficient funding exists for the project to go forward, Folger McKinsey Elementary School will be housed in a portion of the Chesapeake Bay Middle School building at 4804 Mountain Road for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years. We have been working closely with our Facilities Division, our Office of School Performance, and our Transportation Department to ensure a smooth transition with minimal disruptions to the education of our students. More information, such as specifics regarding transportation for students, will be forthcoming later this school year. Our school will continue to operate as a separate entity, with the same phone numbers and accessibility as has been the case at our current location. I know that you join me in the excitement of the new opportunities that this project will bring about for our students. I also know I can count on you to support us over the next two years as we help clear the way to bring about these much-needed renovations. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call the school at 410-222-6560.
Sincerely,
Susan Bachmann |
