We have some wonderful musical events planned for our children. All students in grade 2 will be attending a performance of the Annapolis Symphony in October. Students in grade 5 will be attending a performance of the Baltimore Symphony in February. All students will be participating in a music residency in May with Musical artist Yvette Lewis. We would like to extend the opportunity to you and your child to become more involved in the arts. In the coming months your child will be experiencing arts integrated lessons in school. We would like to extend this learning beyond the classroom. So we created a parent/teacher group called FAME. Through FAME we will be giving you ideas about how you can experience the arts with your child. It may be individual opportunities or it may be groups of families going to a destination. We hope you will take advantage of these offerings. Be watching the Folger website each month for great ideas. See Calendar
Musical Activities and Concepts
We are happy and honored to be able to share music with your child. We cover a wide range of musical activities and concepts.
In grade 3, students will join grades 4 and 5 by playing soprano recorder in general music classes. Students may also choose to play a string instrument in our strings program.
In grade 4, students may begin playing a band instrument. Those instruments include woodwinds, brass and percussion. For more information on the band and strings program, please contact our band instructor, Mr. Yakaitis or Mr. Metzler, our strings instructor.
In grade 5, students participate in our choral program. Students perform a winter and spring program
As you can see, your child has the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of musical activities. Additionally, students attend concerts performed by the Baltimore and Annapolis Symphonies. Select groups perform at community events, county strings festival, choral festivals and pre game activities for the Bowie Baysox baseball team. We hope to see you at an upcoming concert or event!
