AVID Open House Night

An AVID Information Night/Open House will be held on Tuesday, November 9th at Severna Park Middle School for those 5th, 6th, and 7th  grade parents and students who are interested in applying for AVID for the upcoming year. During the presentation, which will be held in the cafeteria from 6:30-7:30, parents and students will have the opportunity to find out more about the AVID program and to visit the AVID classroom. Current AVID students and parents, as well as AVID team members will be on hand to answer questions.

Applications are available here, from the Guidance office, or may be downloaded from the AACPS website. The deadline for applications for the 2011-12 school year is December 2, 2010.

The AVID Program, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a program designed to prepare students in the “academic middle” for enrollment in a 4 year college or university. AVID is designed to target students who have the potential to succeed in a rigorous academic program with the support of the AVID program.

 

Guidance

The Elementary Counselor's role is seen as three-fold: Counselor, Coordinator and Consultant. It is felt that the Elementary Counselor, in these roles, is answering a real need in the elementary child's educational life with help of a preventive nature. Early aid in development of healthy self concept and respect for the feelings of others may well forestall serious adjustment problems in later school years.


The counselor helps students to:
