Welcome to ESOL
ESOL: English for Speakers of Other Languages
When the home language of students is "other than English," the students
are screened for their English proficiency level. If the test results
indicate that they are eligible for ESOL services, then the ESOL teacher
provides regular instruction to promote the children's English language
development and support them in their language arts curriculum. When the
children reach the "independent" stage of English language proficiency,
they no longer need ESOL support. They are ready for the classroom, and
the ESOL teacher's work is complete!
