Transportation Concerns Related to Folger McKinsey's Relocation to Chesapeake Bay Middle School

During our June CAC meeting, parents voiced concerns about the change to school day start and end times for the 2010/2100 school year. As a result of these concerns, the CAC wrote to AACPS Operations requesting that the school day times be adjusted and alternate transportation options be explored. Both the original CAC Letter and the response from AACPS can be viewed by clinking on the links below.

In summary, there are no plans to change the previously announced school start and ends times for the 2010/ 2011 school year. We do believe we have a commitment from AACPS Transportation to work with the Folger CAC to address specific transportation concerns as they arise. While some areas of concern may be apparent from a review of the school bus schedule already announced, many will not be identified until school has started and the process is up and running. Concerns should be directed to the CAC mailbox through the link at the bottom of this page. We look forward to working with the "Folger family" to make this school year's transition to CBMS a good one for our students.

Where will our kids be going to school next year?  Folger McKinsey Elementary School will be housed in a portion of the Chesapeake Bay Middle School building at 4804 Mountain Road for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years. A letter was sent home on January 27th, 2010.

The plan is to relocate Folger, all the students and all the staff, so that it operates just as it does today, simply at another location. There will be minimal interaction with the other school on a daily basis. Folger will have a different start (10:45 am) and end (4:05 pm) time, keeping busses distinct from the host school. Folger will have its own main office. Lunch for our students will be separate from the students at the Middle school. Folger’s address will change for a while but the successful, productive and safe educational experience we know and expect will remain constant. Read more...

The CAC is your source for Folger facility and revitalization news. Through our school’s CAC we will organize to approach the Board of Education with issues related to our school’s needs, such as funding our new facility.

The CAC is about more than just construction matters. At the direction of the Board of Education, each school is to have a CAC to serve as a forum for matters related to educational needs and services, such as budgeting, curriculum, transportation, safety, maintenance, student activities, discipline and issues of community concern. All are welcome to attend to take part in discussions vital to the ongoing success of Folger McKinsey. Of course, the door of our principal, Mrs. Bachmann, is always open and parents are encouraged to raise questions and concerns in a timely manner.Members of the CAC Board are also always available to hear your questions, concerns and ideas. Please contact us as needed and will work to obtain answers and further communication and then use subsequent meetings to share news that applies to the Folger community. You do not need to wait for a CAC meeting to have your question answered. Specific issues related to an individual student should always be addressed directly, rather than in a general CAC meeting.

Thank you for your support of the Folger CAC.  Your involvement makes a difference in the education of all of our children!
